About Me

My Work

I’m the Vicar of St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Jacksonville, Florida, where I wear many hats - and on Sundays, quite a few robes. I spend my days visiting people in the hospital, counseling couples preparing for marriage, praying with people who are hurting or facing their final days, leading our staff, preaching and teaching, and helping to shepherd a vibrant, joyful, and loving community. I also serve as a Regional Canon in the Episcopal Diocese of Florida, supporting clergy across a network of churches.

I was previously the Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dallas. (In the Episcopal Church, we call the senior pastor of a parish the “Rector” - a title that sounds impressive to Episcopalians and meaningless to everyone else.) At St. Luke’s, I worked with a wonderful team to revitalize the parish, expand outreach, and complete a multimillion-dollar capital campaign that transformed the campus and strengthened the church’s long-term sustainability - financially, spiritually, and in terms of growing attendance and membership. I’ve also served as a chaplain to retired clergy; an interim priest; and an associate priest for children, youth, and families.

While my role has evolved, my goal has remained the same: to help people connect their faith to everyday life, to build communities where that faith becomes visible and vibrant, and to help people grow into joyful, loving followers of Jesus.

My Story

I’ve loved the Church since I was a kid, and even more, I’ve loved God. I grew up at the Cathedral where I now serve, and it was here that I first learned about Jesus and the fierce, unwavering love of God. But like many people, my faith has been tested and reshaped over time. I’ve wrestled with God, faced hard questions, and walked through seasons of darkness and pain.

In the most difficult chapters, my faith didn’t disappear - it deepened. It became more honest, more nuanced, and ultimately, more real. I’ve come to believe that the “new life” Jesus spoke of isn’t about going back. It’s about moving forward with confidence and comfort that God’s vision for our lives is always more vibrant than anything we could build on our own.

I’ve studied at Harvard, Yale, the University of Florida, and Georgetown. In my ministry, I’ve had the joy of serving churches in Florida, Massachusetts, and Texas.

My Life Outside the Church

When I’m not in vestments or staff meetings, I’m usually with my son Philip: building cardboard castles, going on pirate adventures, or working on our latest handmade book. I’m an avid reader, an amateur runner, and an aspiring chef.

Most of all, I try to live in a way that stays grounded in joy, grace, and a love that doesn’t give up. My greatest hope is that my work helps others discover that their lives have meaning, that they are called to serve and shape the world for good, and that - no matter what they have or haven’t done - they are embraced by a love bigger than they could ever imagine.

My Sermons

Rooted in Scripture and attuned to real life, these sermons invite you to notice God’s quiet work in your own story: grace, healing, and purpose unfolding all around you.

My Church

St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral is a vibrant, historic church in downtown Jacksonville where worship, beauty, and a diverse community come together to reflect God’s love.
